Are skills less important than social networks?
I have to say that contact I receive is mostly from people who know people I know!
Having a website is becoming more of a ‘back up’ to information people obtain and share on Twitter, Facebook and other social media.
Skills and experience seem less important than networks, but skills do still matter. You could have the largest group of networks and contacts but if you are no good at what you do you won’t get recommended.
If you don’t know me, why not take a look at some of the references I’ve received recently and the services I can offer, or why not link up with me on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn – who knows one day you may have a need for admin and business services or may even want to recommend me to a friend or friend’s friend!
So I find myself coming back to the old saying “it’s not what you know but who you know” to promote myself and get work.
